Real Estate Agents Don’t Learn This…But They Can’t Afford to Ignore It

Are you a team leader?

Most agents would say no.

Team leaders are people who have other agents working for them, right?

If that’s not you, you don’t need to worry about your leadership skills…right?

Not so fast.

Think for a moment about all the people it takes to do business…

At a minimum, you need an inspector, a lawyer, a title and escrow company, and your brokerage.

Sometimes you need contractors, landscapers, stagers, and other people to help prepare the property.

You might have an assistant, an internal transaction coordinator, or other support people who help you get things done.

All these people are on your team…and that’s a GOOD thing.

Because the reality of this business is that you CAN’T DO EVERYTHING.

There’s just way too much that needs to get done! If you try to do it all by yourself, you’ll be working from dawn to dark seven days a week. In a couple of years, you’ll be completely burnt out.

And on the way to burning out, you’ll make mistakes that tank your chances of winning repeat and referral business from your clients.

That’s no way to build a sustainable business.

If you can’t do it all yourself, the only way forward is to recognize, leverage, and LEAD your team.

Does this look a little different for a solo agent than for someone who has ten other  agents working for them? Of course…

But it’s only a matter of DEGREE.

The bigger your team, the more time and energy you have to spend leading and managing it. Eventually, being the head coach becomes your full time job.

But even if you just have ONE assistant, you need to be the head coach sometimes…

And that role has NOTHING to do with listing and selling property.

It’s a completely different set of skills that none of the traditional real estate training will ever teach you.

That’s unfortunate, because these are the skills that make or break your ability to collaborate with others to build your business—whether those people are your employees or not.

Think back to all those people I listed before who are involved in making your business run.

In an ideal world, you’re all in the same boat, rowing in the same direction, in perfect synchronization, at full speed. That kind of collaboration is what makes a winning team…

But it does NOT happen by accident.

In reality, you’re debating with each other over which boat to get in, and you have to wait for someone who’s late to the race, and when you finally get going, no one can agree on the destination, and the oars are all bumping into each other, and you spend most of your time spinning in circles.

That’s what happens when you don’t LEAD your team.

As I told you earlier this week, learning to lead is THE KEY to building a business that can ultimately survive without you and continue to pay dividends even after you retire.

But it’s not just that.

Learning to lead is ALSO the key to making your life and business manageable RIGHT NOW.

It takes all the Six Building Blocks I’ve always coached to…

And applies them to the challenge of collaborating with others.

And there is NOTHING that will supercharge your business like leveraging the talents, time, and energy of other people.

You can continue to do your solo agent thing and ignore this whole leadership idea.

Just know that you’re not actually alone. In this business, you don’t get to splash along in your own private rowboat.

Whether you like it or not, there ARE other people in the boat with you, and if you don’t lead them, they will spin you in circles—and maybe even sink you.

If you know you’re spinning and you’re sick of it, here’s how you can start solving the problem.

On June 20th, I’m kicking off a 4-week Team Leader Bootcamp.

Right now, you don’t know what you don’t know when it comes to leading teams.

By the end of these 4 weeks, you’ll KNOW what you don’t know…and you’ll have the TOOLS to start mastering the skills you’re missing.

Becoming an effective leader is a process that takes time…and that process starts here and now.

And if you sign up in the first 3 days, you’ll get a BONUS Q&A session with one of the top team leaders in the country, Zach Zeldner.
