Still, I have to coach this every single day, over and over and over because almost no one actually does it.
Why do they resist? FEAR.
Specifically, fear of being rejected in some way.
Every objection I’ve ever heard is some version of the same story: “They don’t want to hear from me.”
The vast majority of the time, that’s DEAD WRONG.
People appreciate hearing from their agent. They know you’re busy and important, and the fact that you make time for them leaves an impression. It builds trust.
But agents always go to the worst case scenario in their minds.
If I call, it will be awkward. They'll think I'm a pushy salesperson. They'll hang up on me. They'll yell at me. They'll tell me never to call again…
I'll find out that none of my contacts actually want to do business with me…
I'll never sell another home again…
I'll wind up on the street…
I'LL DIE.
It sounds extreme when you see it written out like that, but the fear really does run that deep—it's your survival instinct.
But guess what? THIS IS YOUR JOB.
Calling people—nurturing relationships—is your job. It's the foundation of your business.
Agents always ask me, "What else can I do?"
