You Can't Do Everything
Every top agent...
Every team leader...
Falls into the trap of trying to do everything.
No one escapes this trap
The question is...
Do you realize you are in this trap?
What are you doing to get out?
When you are caught in the trap of trying to do everything...
You become incredibly inefficient, which leads to working harder and longer, which leads to burnout.
It doesn't have to be this way.
Here is a story I am sure many of you can relate to....
I started with a new coaching client this past week.
He had a big income goal for 2023 based on his 2022 production.
He is way behind on his goal for this year (as most people are).
He had just moved into a new house.
He was still in boxes with landscaping front and back to do.
He needed to do work at the property he had been living in and put it on the market for rent.
He had to organize a big summer family trip that was coming up shortly.
He had a long list of buyers who were writing offers with no success.
His assistant had just left.
He had recently reviewed his finances and was questioning how he was spending his money.
He had several issues with his CRM he needed to discuss.
He shared his systems were not good enough for someone who has been in the business as long as he has.
His head was spinning and he needed clear direction.
He dumped ALL this on his first 30-minute coaching call.
And if he was being honest....
He expected the call to end with all of the above being fixed.
I just needed to waive my magic coaching wand over everything...
Give him 3 simple tasks to achieve in the next week...
And his entire life would be sorted out!!
SIMPLE. EASY. QUICK.
Sound familiar in any way?
And what was really bothering him was....
His lack of production as compared to last year.
His ego was truly bruised and needed some instant production to feel better.
He absolutely hated my coaching....
The first thing I said...
Let go of your ego...
You are NOT hitting your production goal this year...
Don't even think about it.
I suggested he take the next 2 to 3 weeks off entirely and do one thing... unpack!!
If this was you...
What would you be thinking and feeling?
How would you respond in this situation?
Here are some simple truths you can live by that are the complete opposite of trying to do everything...
1. The goal is never to get everything done.
2. All things don't matter equally.
3. The goal is always to get what is most important done.
4. Let go of the rest.
Trying to do everything is a trap. You pinball from one thing to the next... never feeling like you are making progress.
Learning how to time block and stay on schedule is critical.
Knowing the difference between high-probability activity and low-probability activity is equally important.
Your calendar is a productivity tool and should be treated as such.
Distraction is the enemy and bright shiny objects are everywhere.
